Not sure yet on this. I like the Idea of a lever frame so simple but has the Real Railway feel and could even use to change the points by having 2 levers actuate switches that with not to much modifications to the Electric's can be used in conjunction with the current push buttons.time to stop thinking and find some parts that I spirited/ stored somewhere safe like the signal ladders.
It's Friday Train Night at Moonan Flats So it's time to set up for shunting. Shelley has organised some good eats for supper. Hopefully the printer works to print out the new train orders for the shunting moves yesterday day it sent a message to the iPad that it needed service and had run out of ink bit of luck its a pre warning The Big Brit has moved in at Moonan Flats. The loco release at the end of the layout, isn't long enough for the Garret and it will only fit 4 wagons on the fiddle yard with it. it's not exactly a good loco for shunting anyway. Attached files
The previous post had a photo of a British LMS Bayer Garret at Moonan Flats So here is an Australian Bayer Garret at Moonan Flats Just a little bigger not much but a lot more wheeeeeels 4-8-4--4-8-4 way to long for the loco release so you can't even run round a train
A small addition to the front of the Layout for mounting the signal Levers to operate the new signals The shelf parts cut and sanded. Signal leaver install to operate Moonan Flats Signal by CHRIS, on Flickr Shelf painted and in position on the layout front at the Bridge end As I can't find the nice 5 lever frame I have I'm going to make a Tempory set up with some old Hornby/Triang levers very easy mod to get a push rod on these. But good thing come to those that wait And it's getting a bit closer to being done I found the few parts I had orderd for it fitted them, then it was primed in a gray undercote, next with a bit of warmer weather today it was painted black and reassembled still needs a few passes with some greys to tone down the base black then light weathering, but it's got its "LV" code plus number "2290" from the decal sheet from "hell" they just didn't want to float off the backing one coupler modified with a transition link fitted,ie Auto Knuckle with 3 link , one more coupler to make and then it will be added to the roster. Very impressive van Chris worth the wait .. those Garrets are huge and certainly have a presence Ian vt
The LV van looks great Chris, nice job. The use of the Hornby throw levers is something that I had done on Linden Ford to operate the points. I kept the spring inside so that the point would throw back once released from the little catch in the slot at the top. Cheers, Gary.
Gary wrote: Gary I got the idea to use these as a manual lever from your Linden Ford, whilst looking for my 5 lever frame I came across these and remembered that the points on your layout used these so why not. I have it with the spring in, no point in taking it out as you say helps for the return to normal position. They fit neatly on the little shelf I made and I will paint the tops and levers to tart them up a bit. Not sure why I haven't got anything done today on the layout
Toto wrote: Thanks Toto When I weather it the details will realy pop out the black is good at hiding all the little extra detail bits bits ianvolvo46 wrote: Hi Ian The Garrets are big way to big for the little layout when I get to build the dream layout they will have plenty of space to stretch there legs, I'll just dream until then Ron wrote: Thanks Ron It's a nice kit for a mix media kit with the plastic body parts, Brass details and White metal under gear, and it went together nicely and it accepted the scale Knuckle coupler's that I like to use without too much modification
Finally got to doing some scenic's around the signal The base was painted with the same burnt umber paint that I used when the initial layout scenic's were done 2 coats then when dry I brushed on some quick set PVA and added the Ballast and ash Surface. Signal base scenic's applied Then the same was done with the area around the signal Scenic's around the location of the signal base added and some random grass tufts around Whilst I had the box of scenic's out I decided to add some random tufts around this area as it looked a little uniform down between the tracks Also in this photo is a MAL 12 wheel sleeper car it is 1 of 5 cars I was given, it is believed to have been Scratch built in the 1950's Scenic's around the location of the signal base added and some random grass tufts around
Toto wrote: Thanks Toto Yes just had to pay the postage to get them to me Possibly built in the 1950's A little rough by modern standards and have 3 rail wheels I'll give them a freshen up etc
The Signal is in place back on the layout looks like it's meant to be there Now with the scenic's around the base and end of the platform I picked up a few bits n bobs up at Agquip a huge rural trade show that we went too Great prices on tools and bulk screws and other items like springs etc So next up is getting it working from the lever frame the springs I picked up are going to be used to return the signal to the stop position as being all nylon 3D printed, it's not got any weight to the counter balance so needs the actuator roding to make the signals return Attached files
