    Hi Paul

I'll add that to the list. 1 triangular fillet. I think rain strip is actually the term. I will also put a fillet of mastic behind it where it meets the timber wall. ( a trick I learned from tubbs )

Off for a shower that B&Q

    Cheers

    Toto.

    Hi Paul,

been to B and Q. got the stuff for Highbridge and when I was there I looked at new external doors for the shed. They just happen to have some more or less the exact size for the job maybe requiring a couple of mm to be trimmed off. better than trying to add it on.:avatar:

There is meant to be a break in the weather tomorrow. Apparently its meant to be sunny. I'll believe that when I see it.

The triangular fillet idea. If you look at the shed, I actually have a roof overhand over the door of about a foot or so. the top of the door comes to about 2 inches or so from the underside of the roof so I dont know if the door strip would actually serve any purpose. What you think???

I can always still add one...... belt and braces and all that. I had forgotten about the overhang when we discussed it earlier.

I posted a few pictures on Highbridge and it went pretty well as before. I need to try and look at KeithM's gallery as he has posted a great picture of a spam can :giggle:but cant seem to get multiple images working.

    cheers

    Hi Ian,

I've just sorted out some of my images from previous so I am now able to give a whistle stop tour of the R & GLR build through different stages of the process.

I'll satrt of here with some of the baseboard build which commenced after the replacing of the shed floor.

The basic baseboard framing which provided for bothe the upper and lower levels. the lower level for the fiddle yard and the upper for the main running level.

    Another of the same

    and another

and a slightly more advanced view

The commencement of the ramps and general baseboards were next and I have further images to post up for this later. probably tonight. I am heading for the christmas markets for SWMBO shortly .

I also cover the track laying which is complete to date and get on to where I am currently at which is building in further framework for the new ramped section which will take the track from the main top baseboard surface....... up another level around the perimeter to where a end terminus will be .

it is difficult to visualise but the photos will help.

    I'll be back later

    thanks for your kind comments.

    Toto

I reckon there is nothing to beat the excitement of putting into place what you have only dreamt and planned for ages, trouble is when the reality of what you are doing hits home and you realise it,s going to take longer than you think .

Just remember Tom, Rome wasn't built in a day, we were'nt
on that job! Go too fast and you'll meet yourself coming back!!!
Seriously though, looking good and strong, outside railway rooms in the British climate need to be, timber nowadays goes banana-shaped whilst you're looking at it! I'm fortunate in having a centrally heated, dehumidified loft so I can play in all weathers (if SWMBO lets me!)

    Hi Keith

I got invited in from the cold, so the boss could keep an eye on me - that an if she wanted me, she had to walk down to the bottom of the garden to get me (out of range of the wireless phones). :whatever:

I may be restricted for space, but its dry and warm :)

The next batch of five photos show some general baseboard shots. They are for the lower fiddle yard level.

The above is the top end of the fiddle yard taking the first bend.

through the fiddle yard and into the next bend. there are others showing the fiddle yard when the track goes down. they will be posted later.

    below is another general shot.

    and more,

    and another one.

The one below shows where the track splits and one lane goes to " frank the traverser table " and the other along behind Frank eventually joining back up into the fiddle yard again which gives a full circuit.

    Speaking of Frank,

here he is in various stages of the build,

the swivel bearing screwed to the main traverser platform.

    and again,

the bottom bearing plate screwed into place and wheels attached as , as well as turning around as a turn table....... it slides in and out as a traverser.

The image below and Frank is taking shape.

and turned the right way up.

and one with a loading cassette on it whilst being swivelled.

I have further photos of the completed version in place which I will post up later. I post up some more of the track going down as well for those interested.

cheers for now, I'll be back with more later.

    cheers

    Hi,

Didn't get the photos of the current track install but I'll see if I can get onto it tomorrow. SWMBO is back at work tomorrow and I have some domestics to do but hopefully maybe a couple of hours in the shed if it's dry and I can leave the door open to keep an eye on Gypsy.

    Fingers crossed.

    Hi,

finally...... some track laying photographs. Some will recognise these so apologies but for those who may not have........

The above is the back straight, The two inner tracks, one leads round to frank the multi table and the other goes around the back of Frank and returns the loop to the fiddle yard.

Below is the double switch over which WAS to the rear of frank. this is currently under the process of being moved to the opposite elevation of the layout to provide easier access to the cobalts for maintenance. Matt will be able to tell a story or two of contorsionism that was needed to access these before.

A hot of the fiddle yard and the high level tracks which you can just make out above the door handle is where the double cross over will now be housed.

an ariel view of the above.

A shot of the fiddle yard as it flows around the corner and the twin inclined tracks that lead to the upper level.

The bend leading out of the fiddle yard back onto the straight in picture 1.

These are just a few of the layout and not particularly well taken but it will give you a flavour of what its about.

I'll be updating once I have fitted the double cross over and will try and do a series of more flowing images giving a better description of events. Meanwhile, I hope the above has been of interest.

    cheers

    Hi guys,

just a quick update. I had my coffee drinking, burger munching mate over today. one door duly fitted to the railway shed.

As usual, a great job done as we wielded hammer and wood chisel amongst other weapons of choice. Job now done, door fitted and a far securer shed is the result. The bow in the previous door caused by the ingress of water and blowing of the doors core was horrendous.

I'll pop a picture or two up tomorrow to show the result.

    cheers for popping in

There could be a updated video of the air& GLR coming to our screens shortly.
Thanks to Gormo's recents increase in investment in his broadcasting departments budget and the requisition of a new camcorder, I have decided to follow suit.

So ...... A much needed clear up of the shed after last weekends installation of the new shed door and I shall fire up the R&GLR and take my trusty class 33 for a spin.

I'll need to do the conversion of a bogie bolster unit to take the camera mount but that should not be a big job. Watch this space.

    Hi Ian,

I picked up a cheap CCTV system with 4 cameras last year. I will be installing that at some point but they are all tethered cameras. The one I just bought is for mobile recording.

    All high tech stuff

    Cheers

    Hi Toto
That's a great shed you have.
Looks like you have the building teething problems under control

I really like the overhead storage. Top shelf idea their , I may steal that idea ;) for my dream train shed, hate trying to find stuff in the dark under the layout like I had in my old train room.

That bearing on the turn table looks the business :worship:
looking forward to seeing this evolve I love the idea of multi level layouts with trains appearing from somewhere and disappearing, if I ever get my dream train shed I'm planing for some multi level action
