Cameron, if you find any that would be much appreciated. Colour shots of varnished cars are incredibly few, as the last car (KAM508) was repainted into Indian Red in 1960. In the last few years prior to that, it seems to have only been the Melbourne Limited stock that remained varnished in the final years. Bruce, I can't recommend Trove and SLNSW enough. I've spent many hours trawling through both sites and turned up some very useful information for my 1920s Melbourne and Brisbane Expresses.
While waiting for the side doors to arrive in the post, I started working on the new vestibule sections, which also differ from the Lima models. After many hours of work, here's the finished vestibule And a photo of the prototype
Doors for the CAM finally arrived in the mail today. The print quality is excellent and they should look even better once fitted and painted
Excellent Evan. They certainly do look good. How long have you been playing with CAD design software ?? I know that Zane has been designing some very lovely drawings over the last 12 months. Cheers, Gary.
Paul, I got the doors printed through a company called Shapeways. Here's a link to their website: https://www.shapeways.com/ Gary, I've been playing around with CAD in one program or another for about 8 years off and on. As for Sketchup, I've only been using it a few weeks now. I've seen quite a few of Zane's excellent creations, and he actually provided a great deal of good advice to me in doing these doors Cheers, Evan
Evan I've been looking at these http://www.gearbest.com/3d-printers-3d-printer-kits/pp_337314.html And was wondering if you had any idea if they were any good ? Paul
Having only done printing via Shapeways (and these doors being the first print I've done), I can't offer much of an opinion on 3D printers to keep at home. For the time being at least, I will be sticking with Shapeways.
http://www.gearbest.com/3d-printers-3d-printer-kits/pp_337314.html Seems quite an impressive bit of kit, especially for the price, although don't forget that there will be just about 25% to add to the cost of the item and postage (VAT+ import duty) which will make it about $250(US) equating to about £188.75 at todays rate of exchange, and if it's coming by post, Royal Mail add another £8 "handling charge" on top of that. Still not bad for the price though, assuming you know how to use it....too technical for me though! Keith.
For those just starting out in kitbashing, always apply a trace coat of paint (preferably light grey) to highlight any imperfections which need to be addressed. This is going to take a day or two.....
Looking good, I like the paint tip. Keith - been looking on amazon and ebay, there are uk suppliers that work out about that price, will just need to keep drooling and walk around with sad eyes
Went out and bought a new mitre block for cutting up passenger car sides. Need to remember next time to check how deep my razor saws are.... D'OH!!
