Starting to come together now and it is looking good. Top job so far and I'm sure it will be a winner when complete. Keep up the great work. Cheers, Gary. ps. Congrats on Pic Of The Week, well deserved !
Thanks Guys, Me neither Pete.......A3 would be the go by the sounds of it.... Well folks moving along at a slow pace however coming together. The Metcalfe kit is a bit short on detail so I have been adding my own as I go along. For example, the dividing walls that fit inside the Booking Hall are only printed on one side. So I scanned the parts and then reversed the images and printed them out and stuck them to the unprinted sides as per below. I`ve also added some curtains to the Station Masters house top and bottom. None supplied. And to further enhance the building I have put some room interiors top and bottom in the house as well. I`ve simply printed them out and then stuck them to clear acetate. The idea being that I can light them from behind. The pics below show the top floor set up This is the ground floor set up which includes a made up short floor. The access hole will allow me to shove a light up to both floors on a pole system. To see the effect, I have done a short video using my torch to light the lower floor. The video is poor quality due to the light conditions, however you will get the idea. I have also made some floors for the rooms either side of the Booking Hall hallway. These will remain removable for the moment as I may be adding some people to the inside of the building. A new end wall for the ladies waiting room which also doubles as a support. Now a bit of a dry run on the platform just to keep the interest going. I intend to do some tile strips for the roof. Either Scalescenes or make my own. I need to study Bewdley again before I choose which way to go. From memory Bewdley has a patchwork of weathered grey slates with some moss growing on certain parts. Anyway that`s a little way off yet. So folks ....that`s it for the day......more to follow. http://www.clickGormo
Looks the business Gormo ! One suggestion regarding the floor. If the building is to be removable, glue the floor to the platform and use it as a template to site the building. You may have to thicken the depth of the floor to approx. 3mm thick, as this will help the walls stay true and square in the long run. Cheers, Gary.
Hi Gormo That's a top idea with the interior beats making up bits to resemble furniture etc Very creative Looking forward to what bit if inspiration is next.
You are doing a great job there Gormo. Did you paint the little people yourself or did they come painted ? I like the rather portly gentlemen. Jimmy five bellies.
Thanks Ian ......and for my next trick !!!!, A little bit more done today and I`m starting to see the end in sight. The end building on the left is nearly there......just needs some arches over the windows and some interior detail.....but that`s already sorted .....just have to slip it in. The round window I feel has been my biggest test so far. I made the cream surround in my drawing program and designed the centre section with spokes which were cut lines. A bit like slicing a cake into small slices. Then the tiny little triangles that the cuts created, were folded back into the opening. You may have noticed a post in the first pic.??? The platform awning posts that come with the kit are obviously made from card.....they are very thin and very fragile and they don`t look very good. So I`m trying this method.......it`s all metal....will outlast religion and the next ice age.....and Yes!!!....it`s a bicycle spoke with it`s nut attached.!! I think it looks much better than the card version and this is just a test version. So I`m fairly confident the post will be a goer and I will also use them for the platform canopies that have to be scratch built a bit further down the track. That`s it for the moment......more as it happens. http://www.click Gormo
The bicycle spoke is a brilliant idea. It has the hexagonal lower section and the round base, similar to what I have seen about. This will look great when completed and perhaps with what I mentioned to you the other night.... Shhh, don't tell no-one, spoilers ! Cheers, Gary.
What with point control rods and now posts, I'm just wondering how many poor people in Oz go out in the morning and find their bike spokes missing
Cheers Guys, Yes Gary I have checked with SWMBO and she has confirmed that the item we were talking about the other night is indeed available. Thanks for that great idea......it`s a ripper!!!!.. Ed.......I don`t nick their bike spokes......I just collect stuff that people have dumped......just call me Steptoe!!!........actually it`s amazing what people throw away.??? By the way Gary the bike spoke nut when it`s screwed all the way to the end of the thread, it leaves a little bit of thread hanging out of the bottom, so I just grind that off to make the base nice and flat. Might even tweek that a little more......early days yet. http://www.click.....Good night chaps.....see you in the mornung!!!! PS......stay tuned for Gormo`s Shed on Friday.......I decided to brush up on a certain subject.
gormo wrote: Can that 'little bit of thread' be used as a pin to locate each post on the platform ?? This diagram is a little oversize, but... Cheers, Gary.
Top tip with the bicycle spokes so for O scale I think motorbike wheel spokes would be about right . Pete.
Thanks Guys, Yes Gary......could do that I guess.? I would just have to weigh up, is it easier to use it as a locator pin or rather grind it off and just glue the post.?????......Quick answer!!!.....Dunno yet. Pete.....yes I imagine motorbike spokes might do the job for you in 7mm scale. I am just trying to visualize them in my minds eye and I am guessing they would be approximately twice the size of a push bike spoke. Look out bikers in Pete`s neighborhood !!!!! http://www.click Gormo
