You may have to be very careful with the glue. You don't want it seeping and spreading across the fantastic platform surface you have created.

    Cheers, Gary.

Ah yes ....the dreaded glue creep.....the bane of modellers near and far. Many have tried to beat it but just when you thought you`d won the day, it oozes out of the most inaccessible spots and somehow it seems to be on your fingers too and everything you touch gets glue on it :confused::confused::confused:. Then you wipe it off and the fibres from the cloth stick to it and make it look even worse.

    AAAAAAAAaaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!

    Meanwhile back to the build,

Substantial works have been undertaken in moments of free time over the last couple of days.

The building modules have been joined to form an almost whole building and following that the roof sections have to be done.

As you can see below I am adding strips of slates to the original kit roof to spruce it up a bit. When the glue is dry , the paper is trimmed and then the vertical joins in between each slate are lightly cut with a sharp knife. This will further enhance the detail, however it is a painstaking job.

This is the biggest section of roof below and that took an hour to scribe all of it`s slates.......oh well...no gain without pain !!!!

Careful trimming required.....we don`t want to cut into the card but we want to leave a nice crisp edge on the roof.

The building has also been fitted out with lighting. Two bus leads have been run parallel with the front and back walls so that the LEDs can be connected up near their locations fairly easily.

The little black doovers just keep the bus leads up off the cardboard ceiling. The LEDs are Superglued into their positions.

The lighting was tested before moving forward. The station masters house has just been fitted with the new fluoro lighting system that`s just come out.

I am running lights off an old transformer / speed controller which allows me to dim the LEDs if I wish as in the pic below.

Tonight I have fitted all the roofs bar one small end section. That still has to be scribed.

Once all the roofs have been fitted they will be fitted with ridge capping and then weathered and then sealed with Matt Spray Sealer.

So still plenty to do but we`re getting there.!!

    Thanks Guys,

They are mostly yellow LED`s with a single white one used in the station masters house to project through the room background.

The roof is on now and ridge capping. Barge boards fitted this afternoon along with the awning support beam.

The roof has been dirtied up but more work needed there once the chimneys are fitted. The chimneys are being re-skinnned as well. The first chimney has been done and I`ve managed to achieve some nice crisp corners on the chimney stack.

Heaps to do yet but it`s getting there......we`re down to the easy parts now.

I will take some photos shortly and post them up.

Looks great Gormo. That is a vast improvement on what Metcalfe can offer.:thumbs::thumbs:

Will another ornate post go under the awning ?

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thank you Gentlemens,

Yes Gary.....another post to go.....the one in the pic is the test dummy......so probably two new ones to be made.????

Had an idea overnight........umbrella struts as guttering?????....I fear they may be too wide, but I must away to the shed to check it out. You see they are a U shape and would look good painted up!!,....however the size....the size????......yes you see I`m just not content with bicycle spokes as posts....I need to use those umbrella struts for something????

By the way.....have found a technique for getting crisp corners with the Scalescenes paper on my Metcalfe chimney stacks. Cut the paper to the right width and length. Then make a sharp fold for the first corner. Glue that first face onto the chimney stack. Now hold the next section of paper against the stack and at the second corner, pinch the top of the paper between your fingers to make a crease. Fold the paper back away from the stack and make a proper crease now and then glue that face to the stack. Repeat until you have gone around the whole chimney.

It looks 500% better than the folded card Metcalfe offering.

Away to the shed and umbrella strut measuring.....Areeba, Areeba....Underlay !!!!!

    Adios

I have used Umbrellas struts for industrial guttering, most are a bit large for normal guttering.

A lot depends on the type of umbrella, I found one in a bin recently that had a smaller 'U' section than I had seen before, so that was taken home for future use.

A lot of the new smaller automatic brolley's don't have the 'U' section they just have round plastic rod, which is also useful.

A method I have used for 4mm guttering is to take a sheet of plastic card, 60 or 80 thou, using a piece of 1/8" round mild steel bar one end filed or ground to a sharp edge then use it to scribe a groove on one edge of the plastic card until a half round groove is made, then using a knife and or a file form a 1/4 curve on the outside of the sheet then cut off the formed gutter leaving a little to glue it to your building, repeat until you have sufficient guttering or you run out of card :).

    Cheers, Pete.

I've stuck a length of spagetti, between two pieces of card, then used thick all foil - from a food container, and rubbed it on top of the spagetti to ge the shape.

    Very inventive you lot!!!,

But I`m afraid my method will not be the BEES KNEES of guttering, so if it looks OK then that`ll do me.

Let`s face it.....it`s better than no guttering.......Anyway I`ve done one piece and also worked out a method for sealing the ends to give a reasonable representation of a guttering profile.

I`ll post some pics up when I get a chance.......Off to the doctors now and again tomorrow. The penalties of getting a little older!!!
