Also wondering when Paul will be publishing his new book '101 thing to model with spaghetti' :avatar:

I`m singing in the rain.....just singing in the rain,

What a glorious feeling....I`m happy again.

That was just for you Ed.....or anyone old enough to remember valve radios....:giggle::giggle::giggle:

Well Folks.....a delivery of new toys today has arrived from Amanda at AJM Railways.

A Bachmann 20 Ton Toad .....weathered and coming in at half the price I would pay in Oz.....or same price as second hand.......very nice!!!!

Also three of these station lamps and there are two more in transit. I have to paint these to my chosen colour. Haven`t decided on that yet.????

And this is how the bridge is going. Got some thinners today and sprayed the supports. They still need to be weathered.

Here are a couple of test dummies for my corrugated roof. Testing how they take paint and also which type of glue to use....PVA or Superglue.....Superglue won!!!!

And this is how they look on one side of the roof......may have to add another sheet on this side but initial measurements seem to be OK for this length.

I seem to be getting into a rhythm with marking out the sheets now. The info on how to make them will appear in tomorrows Gormo`s Shed. They are not exact scale replicas but they look OK to me and I think once painted they will be transformed. Of course guttering etc. will be added to complete the deception. Again I`m glad I took the plunge into this make over, because ultimately I think the blessed bridge will look a darn sight better than the original model. Well at least it will be different anyway.???

    More as it happens.

    Thanks Chris,

Well folks.........moving right along.......I`ve finished the main roof for the footbridge today and below is a fairly self explanatory pictorial record.

All sheets applied and ridge capping fitted from the same material. The ends of the ridge capping have been folded under and trimmed and pressed.

    A view from above

And how it will sit in position on the supports

Then it was off to the paint shop for a make over.

This final pic convinces me that the effort was worth it. Under that corrugated sheet sits a plain printed tile roof which will never be seen again......Hooray !!!!!!

    The method

    Thanks Ed & Kimbo,
Trouble is that your tastes and expectations change as you flow along in this hobby. The kit looked pretty good to me once upon a time, but things have changed since I purchased it a couple of years ago.
Rather than sell it off or give it away.....why not try and improve it and at the same time try and improve my own kit bashing skills. The more you do the more you learn, as is obvious from the results you see with some of our Scalescenes builder members.
So I still have a number of card kits ....some Metcalfe and some Superquick, so I dare say this will not be the last kit bash for me just yet.
http://www.click:tophat: and a jolly nice evening to you all.....Gormo

Looks even better now its painted Gormo , I believe it is asbestos sheeting? so will you give it some weathering, green/yellow moss etc?
    Cheers, Pete.

    G`day Folks,

A bit more done on the footbridge build.

One of the staircases has been connected to the main bridge. Because the kit is being modified, various adjustments and tweeking is required to get things to line up correctly. The stairs for example, would normally be set into the brick base that comes with the kit, however as the brick base is not being used in this case, the stairs need to be fitted into the staircase walls. The result is that the middle landing needed to be cut back. The top landing sits a little lower than it should and of course, the bottom stair no longer reaches the pavement. A good deal of fudging and measuring required and additional steps added at the bottom as a base.

However in saying all that, it`s going together quite well. I am over all the hurdles now. I am now working on the second set of stairs. Timber strips are being added with their edges being coloured up with a felt pen before gluing in place.

The corner section ready to go.

New steps added to the bottom

Just waiting for the second set of stairs. The stairs are in two sections. I have been joining one landing to one set of stairs and then airbrushing the two sets before combining them into the outer walls. The critical area is the middle landing, lining up the height and the length, therefore it`s easier to bring in the two sets of stairs and landings and join them correctly in their final positions.

So that`s where it`s at folks and here`s a short video to show it off as well.

This is looking good Gormo. It's really transformed the look of the original kit into an individual custom model :worship::thumbs:

    Thanks Chris,

Yes I am very happy with it. It has lost that heavy look that the kit had due to the brick base. I really think the brick base is just there to make it easier to build.? Fair enough I suppose, but combined with all the flat surfaces, I don`t think it works very well visually.

The removal of the bricks seems to draw your eye to the bridge and stairs and gives the model a more prototypical look in my opinion.

Sorry Pete.....missed you on the overlap......yes the building will be weathered.....especially the roof.
Seems a shame to dirty it up but it`s really a bit too clean at the moment.

It certainly make the the kit into something special.

I know what you mean for standards changing, and always an issue on a large layout, as skills and methods improve older models start to look out of place - suppose that's why a layout is never finished

Thanks Guys......sorry `bout the delayed reply,

More to show now........the footbridge is nearing completion. It just requires the stair roofs to be painted ( tomorrow ) and then the entire roof system can be fitted.

I`ve finished up joining the middle landing to the upper stairs roof, for ease of construction, however this required and accurate bend in the corrugated sheet once fixed.

So tonight I`ve just sat it on the platforms and took some pics and video which are below.

    G`day Folks,

Well I got through some of the list.!!

The support posts for the middle landings on the stairs have been created and fitted. They are made from modified bicycle spokes as usual, however I left room on the thread for the bottom nut to be adjustable up or down, instead of trying to cut the spoke to the exact length in each case.

The staircase roofs have been painted and fitted and prior to that some passengers were strategically placed inside the bridge. The main roof is also permanently secured.

Smoke deflectors have also been fitted. The ones supplied with the kit are simply a piece of flat card so I cut some 2mm strips to add to the sides of them to give a more realistic profile. They were then painted with Carbon Black Matt Acrylic.

A better view of the smoke deflectors.

Well I think I need a break from this bridge for a couple of days. The bridge certainly needs weathering, however further details will be given more consideration. In the meantime I`ll just enjoy watching trains going under it.
