You've been treating yourself. Very good prices Gary. Much more affordable than the uk stuff. That Union Pacific is something else. 17" long including tender. Wow.

I'll have another swatch at your wagons, they look great as well.

does any one know how to stop my ears from bleeding? :avatar::avatar::avatar: I recon you would get thrown out of a show if you fired that up for more than a few minutes...:giggle:
Gary your weathered wagons look the biz, great job, as for the loco, I think I'll pass and let Toto order one.

    Gary,

I was laughing at how he had to shout over the sound of the engine.

Does it come with a "Live at Leeds" db warning?

The models look great Gary, I still think you're heading into the contender zone with this layout. Look forward to seeing them up close.

Slowly but surely I am working through all the little 'glitches' that are raising their heads in preparation to the exhibition. Track cleaning is one thing that will be at the top of the agenda over the weekend of exhibiting !

I have had an issue with two of the locos that will be run on the layout over the course of teh weekend, but with the magnifying visor on, I think I have sorted some of the issues. One was poor pick-up on the small blue shunter. A pair of pick-ups were twisted around and not at all touching the wheels. I'd say this way done during wheel cleaning, which is quite easy to do. The other on my RSD 4/5 (black loco) was really dirty wheels, which surprised me as it already had a decoder installed and I had just swapped it out for a sound decoder !

The track and wire droppers is being looked at right now. In some places the ballast between the frog rails was a tad too high, which resulted in lifting the bogies up, which means there is no electrical contact between the wheels and the rail. Some of these areas have been dug out and new ballast will be added back in, but not as high !

I have ascertained that I need more droppers on one set of points and on the single slip. For some reason or another, not enough power was being supplied to one point in particular. I had link wires from the set of droppers on the next piece of straight rail connected to the points stock rails but this is not sufficient enough. This should only be a 15 minute jodb.

I have realised that the single slip has no droppers connected what so ever ! Don't know how I missed that... :whatever: I guess during initial testing all was good thrugh the slip, until... Anyway, whilst I have the iron hot, two new droppers will be soldered to the outer stock rails of the slip.

I'm still waiting on delivery of the cross bucks and I have also ordered a Pennsylvania Rail Road caboose, actually, I have ordered two, one from the US and one from Oz. ;)

Other than that, some weathering has been taking place during the week and through the upcoming week, I have a few wagon kits to assemble.

So a few pics of the weathered wagons...

I need to tone done the orange rust somewhat on the Thrall wagon above...

    More as it happens... ;)

    Thanks Chris.

    This afternoon disaster struck...

Whilst fitting the body back on my RSD 4/5, I managed to snap one of the speaker wires to the speaker that sits in the cab. Unfortunately it snapped off right at the point where it is fixed to the speaker... I attempted to solder the broken wire to the stub poking from the speaker and doing so, I snapped another wire from the second speaker... Being small 13m round speakers, I can't see how I can solder this back in/on.

I think the best bet would be to find someone who sells say a 13mm x 18mm speaker, but there is very limited room under the body, so it would have to be only 3-4mm high. Another alternative is a 15mm diameter x 3.5mm speaker, but I can't find a retailer in Sydney... :whatever:

    Cheers, Gary.

Hi Gary if Kimbo's speakers are not any good, if you can source a UK retailer, let me know and I'll sort something out. What a PITA.
    Cheers

Couple of items arrived in the post yesterday.

I ordered a packet of laser cut cross bucks from Osborn Models.
    HO scale : http://www.osbornmodelkits.com/HO_scale_railroad.htm
    N gauge : http://www.osbornmodelkits.com/N_scale_railroad.htm

Very nice kit which comes with a jig to form up the X of the cross bucks and to align on the post.

The other item was one of two cabooses that I had ordered. This one here is from Bob's Hobbies in Sydney. This model is in need of some grime !

    Cheers, Gary.

No Toto, you didn't hear weathering, you heard grime ! :avatar:

I have a few wagons to weather but I'll wait for the second caboose to arrive, hopefully tomorrow, if not early next week. Just as well that I'm having the week off leading up to the exhibition, as I still have a tonne of work to do to get it all ready....

Jim, you are correct, Osborn models do have some great kits available and easily put together.

    Cheers, Gary.
