Zen Buddha XL 6 function 3 amp decoder has been ordered to get the Class 25 DCC'd. Hopefully have it for the weekend. Cheers Toto
Just need to chip you and jobs a good un. So you bringing all the big boys as well for chipping ? Paul
Well, I continue my quest for O Gauge excellence tomorrow. Electrics is the name of the game. My big beastie decoder hasn't arrived yet but hey, tomorrow is another day ....... You never know. I have enough to keep me going anyway. The forecast ain't good but for what I am doing, I can stand the baseboards on end in the shed and solder away quite the thing. Easy tasks really mostly straight forward soldering of droppers onto the track BUS and a wee bit wiring for the switch8 etc. Cobalts are easy dealt with as I have easy access to both sides of the baseboards. Should be a productive day with plenty photo's to back up the progress. Catch up tomorrow. Cheers Toto
So what gauge wire are you going to use for the bus wire, if your'e wanting to go belt and braces then 2.5mm mains cable would work, and I have Deans connectors you can use for connectors between baseboards. Looking forward to the pics / progress Paul
I think I have some 2.5mm twin and earth. If not I know I have 1.5mm for sure. That can take 15amps or at least I've used it for domestic housing lighting rated at that. I do think I have some 2.5mm though. I may have a few deans connectors but if not, I'll pinch a couple off you when I'm up eating your bacon rolls and drinking your fine coffee on Sunday. now ..... what else can I rob from you when I am up. ( posting from me kip by the way ) I am going to wire the links from the switch 8's to the Cobalts in single core cable as opposed to the multicores I used on the R & GLR. It is not taking any current at all really. I think I have a spare UTP so I'll get that fitted as well. Pat at a Townstreet will be getting a call at some point this weekend to get my platform edges ordered up as once the electrics are done and tested, the ground cover etc will be starting. I will look out what I have in the way of scenic scatters etc and post up. Maybe folks can advise / suggest based on whats there. My soil mechanic ain't come back to me yet. I suspect he's busy getting industry lane tip top for the Liverpool Exhibition and also working on his competition plank ( with no name ). Geeeeeessshhhhh. Can't get the staff. Cheers Toto
Just a though. I'd thought of the 1.5mm based on the 9 foot length of the layout being unlikely to be effected by volts drop but should the modular idea kick off it could be different so maybe it would be worth making the standard BUS wiring 2.5mm right enough. Cheers Toto
The 1.5mm would do, but if you have 2.5, and are thinking of having the layout as part of a larger modular system, then it may be worth doing 2.5 from the outset, as there may be a 10A booster connected in the future. Paul
Well provided I have some ....... And I think I have, I only need a couple of metres, then 2.5 it is. The modular theme will be in good timing with you finishing Vicky Road. No rest for the wicked Eh. Now all we need is another half a dozen O Gauger's to jump on board, pick a central location, hire a hall and have a get together with the modules. Not to mention a stay over with a few beers and a curry.
You don't get away with it that easy. Anyway ..... Who else could possibly coordinate it. Never advised you of your new ..... Extended role. Only joking ..... If it's a goer, I'll tear my hair out.
Morning campers, Hi de hi. one supermarket visit to get out the way and then it's shed time. It's good to see that the weather is actually holding out so I may be able to work outside rather than in the shed. Either way it's still shed time. I'll get a few photos up along the way. Enjoy your day ...... Hope it's a productive one. Toto
Baseboard one wired. Started with this I mean ..... this BUS wires are in. 2.5mm twin minus the earth. and then started some of this ...... and here I am, to get to this All the track droppers are wired and soldered and the cobalts are in and tested with a 9volt battery. The switch 8 is now in and all cabling back to the switch 8's and back to the track BUS are in and connected. A feed from the track BUS to the switch 8 is also done. Now ....... baseboard two ...... here we go again. I'll get baseboard two done ok and I shall need to create links from baseboard one to baseboard two for the Track BUS and two sets of points back to the switch 8. The power wont go on today but the whole layout will be completely wired ready for the big moment. What I will be doing after the second baseboard is fitting decoders to my Fowlers and my wotsit thingy...... So todays work is no where near over yet ....... stay tuned for the next update. cheers toto
Looks like you're in for a busy day Tom!! I think a glass of vino will be well earnt!!http://www.click CheersRon
Hi Ron, Busy so far, baseboard 2, started with the above, soldered up the feed droppers, fitted and connected the Cobalts, just got to wire the links between the two baseboards. nearly done. cheers Toto
This is what I use to connect my wiring together : http://www.jaycar.com.au/2-pin-bullet-type-plug-socket/p/PP2034 Very strong connectors and the wires are coloured for your convenience ! Cheers, Gary.
