Another Connoisseur Coach build, my build is of the 6 wheel full brake kit (PMK 17).

In addition to the kit I also purchased Slaters wheels, and the Connoisseur 6 wheel suspension kit.

    1st up the Kit parts

    Lovely crisp etches

The roof and brass wire are on the backside

    And two bags of castings

W irons and springs, with a spare just in case - boy he knows me well :avatar:

And a bag with the rest of the bits

And finally a full set of printed instructions. For those who haven't looked at Jim's kits before - shame on you :avatar:, all his instructions are free to download from his website, as well as getting started general instructions as well. I had already downloaded the instructions as I like to have a copy I can freely scribble on, and cross out sections I've completed.

Time to look at the bits again and get the torture tools prepared.

The coach is based on the S&DJR prototype, however, I will be painting mine into Highland Railway colours, with the intension of scratch building a couple others to go behind the HR 0-4-4T Passenger Tank - that one won't get completed until I get the large format resin printer - delays at present due to Corvid 19, and a two grand price tag - Dear Santa .......

There are photos of similar looking vehicles on the HR, so modellers licence will be used.

    Back later

Now Hermes are playing a hard to get tease, you could almost say foreplay, sent me an email on Tuesday evening informing me they are aware of my parcel and will collect it, then on Wednesday afternoon their local courier has collected it and it's on it's way to me. Thursday it's now in the distribution hub, Friday it's arrived at the local depot and this morning, it's out for delivery and you should get it between 2pm and 6pm - fine but who sent it !

It could be one of two parcels, my 12" bending bars or my rolling road, or even one of several reference books I've ordered over the last few days - more of them when the arrive.

I'm kinda hoping its the folding bars as I'm waiting for them for this build.

So as not to loose the momentum, made a start and removed all the etches etc from the packing card - see even I can do that without supervision - Morag has taken the knife back tho' :avatar:

And underneath the roof there was more

A piece brass strip for mounting the Vacuum cylinder, and various lengths of wire.

While everything is on the fret I decided to punch the rivets.

My tool of choice (that's cos it's all I have bar a hammer and nail) is a London Road Models riveting tool - essentially a drop hammer arrangement.

    I produces consistent results

The steps brackets bolts and buffer beam bolts

The sole bar detail - one side is done, the other one (upper) still to be done

Next I'll cut out the sides and ends, but will need the bending bars to fold over the top edge before creating the tumblehome (accord to the instructions that is, and yes I have read them, well some of them  - guess what I'm going to be doing while I wait for the delivery - forget social distancing, just get it here

    Nice start.

My rivet former is a pin and a pin hammer ..... produces consistent devastation. :avatar:

You can get your step irons and coupling hook plates done meanwhile. All progress is progress. C'mon now ..... no slacking. ;)

    Yes Sir :tophat:

    Coupling hook plate done first

I then bent the tumbleholme on the end then filled the steps

Staightening the buffer beam was interesting as the coupling plate stops you gripping the beam firmly, got round the issue by using the widest parts of my bending jig to clamp the beam with the coupling plate in the gap

1st the good news - parcel has arrived, unfortunately it was the rolling road, 1 x 7mm scale rule and 1 x 4mm scale rule plus a set of broaches, folding bars still on the way, may need to chase these up as they were on next day delivery by courier, that was on Tuesday.

So will need to look at a different method to bend the sides, I do have the steel plate with the ally angle, so we'll if there is enough capacity.

    On chores now :whatever:

    So

Used the plate & angle - don't think I would try this with the lower section especially when it has a tumbleholme.

Both sides done, now have to find a broom handle, without raising too much suspicion - back to the chores

    That and time for bed

More a controlled burning, with audible alarms when it gets too hot

    30 hinges later

All four side given a clean with soap, and a scrub with a tooth brush - that finds the dry joints.

    The side duckets next

Ok - got a little carried away, and forgot to take some piccies - I will better for the second side

    These are the bits

Ther center section needs bending to suit the side panels, and this is where I forgot to take the picsand when the ducket is inserted into the side panel, it clicks in place  knew I should have cleaned it up before testing for the fit.

not soldered into place yet, but it's tea time, so I'll be back
