At work so progress has been slow, managed to get a little time after tea to start on the second ducket

Formed the outer panel to the sides]

Then tag soldered the first end in place - dog walking duties interferred with any further progress

    Hopefully more progress tomorrow

I've been using standard 60/40 solder for this part of the build, which just makes the fingers sizzle more, the instructions say you should hear the sound of sizzling bacon, I'd like to add if you can smell the sizzling bacon then the soldering iron has been incontact with the model to long for hand holding - no prizes for guessing how I know.

I built 3 Westdale LNER suberbans some years ago, wish I had kept them they made into nice models. I chucked most of the white metal castings for the underframes and used brass angle instead. I wanted to buy some more but he no longer makes the Thompsons unfotunately.

    Cheers, Pete.

yes Pete, they are a bit lacking in the detail department, so I will probably do the same as you have.

looking at the kit Paul, it looks like most of your build will be in brass for the under framing. Look forward to seeing how these get built.

I've also purchased Jim's 6 wheel compensation kits so the Whitemetal springs and axle boxes become cosmetic.
I'm really enjoying this build - when I can to it, this working from home seriously impacts on modelling time :whatever:

I'm away to warm up the soldering Iron, time to assemble all the sides

    and so it begins

first up bend the buffer beams I used the edge of the bending jig

This was done for both ends then a wee filet of solder to strengthen the folds

    Now the assembly

Neodymium magnets to the rescue - helps to hold the engineers square in place while I tag the first corner

    Repeat for all four corners

I also ran a fillet of solder on the duckets to hold them in place - clean up still to be done, but that'll be after the chores are done

Coming along nicely Paul. Are there any interior etches with the kit or is that left for the build to sort out?

    Hi Kim
    No interior etches
A printed thin card floof and brake handle are provided for the Full brake, printed card interiors can be purchased from Connoisseur Models. I'll see what the weight is like, and may have to make a floor from Lead, or have some well placed loads within it. May use a brass or plasticard floor if weight is not an issue, and 3D print the fittings.

That's what you get for picking the easy option :avatar:

Well my 12" bending bars arrived yesterday - time to use them for bending up the solebar's and footboards

Now to add the footboard brackets - 10 per solebar

I tinned the backside of the brackets while still on the fret

There are half etch lines acting as guides for the placement of the brackets

Next job attach the solebars to the body

    And then the footboard

1 more to go then start making up the lower footboard assemblies
