Got the card - Hobbycraft have an offer on A1 5mm Foam board £4 each or 4 for £10 - I got 4 :whatever:, plus 3 sheets of 2mm Grey Board.

Started to print out the sheets for the build, and ran out of ink , quick visit to Curry's and there out of stock   ah well Amazon will deliver tomorrow.

No time for excuses, progress needs to be made.

Apertures cut out from the second floor

The floor area was given a thin coat of Valljeo Grey surface primer. Followed by Humbrol Smoke, Dark Earth and White weathering powders. These will get toned down a little further with Talc. The end roof was then trimmed and glued in place.

Using one of the failed Window prints, I gave it a thin brushed coat of Valljeo Grey surface primer. Then the cast outer frame was painted with a thin coat of Tamiya Buff.

Once dry they will get a coat of Matt varnish, then a dry brush of white to pick up some highlights, followed by a wash of black.

In the mean time, I decided to try two of each window to see what they will look like.

    And from the other end

Time to start and mark out the rear building

Yep - I realized the same issue - planned to spend Thursday, Friday & Saturday, however at work we have to have completed the decssioning and be off site for the end of this week, so I needed to be in Thursday and Friday, and it's SWMBO birthday today, so the only progress was in painting the windows. Looks like I'll not be able to get much more done before next Friday.

On these ones I painted the Valljeo grey primer with the air brush, then hand painted the plaster/cement surrounds
The right hand window is one of the original paintewindows with a black wash.

    And in place

The building will get completed but may get moved to a standard build thread.

Wasn’t the closing date today’s? Shame when work interrupts play

How frustrating! It was looking so good and, for a novice like me, it's been an interesting and informative read

    Cheers all

Hi Graham - and that's why I will continue the build, sticking to the original rules, as it provides an interesting challenge as well as one of many buildings I will need for the Victoria Road extension, but that will be another story.

Glad to hear it Paul, and I'll look forward to seeing the end result.

I had at first thought/hoped that I had the skills and imagination to scratch-build most things but am quickly learning that kits will probably yield much better results. I think I best get a few of those completed before considering altering them, or run the risk of ending-up with what Charlie Windsor would call a monstrous carbuncle.

    All the best

Graham, I find the Scalescene kits great for Bashing, straight off the printer produce great kits, but really come into thier own when you start to mix and match the components.

I would recommend that you record the printer / paper settings you use as any changes in settings can lead to different print colours.

Thanks for the printing tips Paul. Although my somewhat elderly printer is a little limited with regards to settings that can be changed - might treat myself to a new one soon.

Now I did say I will complete this build, and have finally had a chance to do a little more.

1st up - I coated the build so far with Winsor & Newton Galleria Acrylic Matt Varnish to protect the printed surface, I should have done it a while ago.

Next build up an inner rear wall, and attach in place

Once dry attach the larger rear wall - which is really the front wall of the rear building section, and still within the competition rules, not that makes any difference now.

Printed up some more windows, hopefully enough to complete the build.

Now just need to wait for the glue to dry
