Cheers Gary that was my intention but ... I've looked at my trackplan ... again ... and realised there's no purpose for the sidings i.e. factory or goods shed or ...? ... so .... ?

Why not change the plan to a simple Inglenook with a kick-back siding then. The kick back could have an industry of some sort and perhaps the siding on the top right could house an engine shed...

    Cheers, Gary.

I liked both plans, but for each, for the lower level have a fold down extention to support a simple casstte shelf, so when not being played with - sorry outwith operating sessions, or when only using the upper level, it folds up flat to the board. When folded out gives easy access to the fiddle casstte, so no Gormoesk solution needed :avatar:

Ian your solution for detection with the repelling magnets is absolutely brilliant.:idea::idea::idea::idea::thumbup:

I think you should get a special award for lateral thinking because that is so different to anything I`ve ever seen or read about.

I think it should work, but will require very accurate placement of magnets and the right amount of pressure on the spring.

Another solution could be the magnet in the wagon activates a reed switch in the track which switches on an LED indicator on a panel.......just a thought.???

    I`m getting worried.....:twitch::twitch::twitch::twitch:

I have just used the same pieces of track as you have done in your plan above and this is what I came up with...

I do like Pauls idea óf a collapsible fiddle yard/extension. It wouldn't matter what end you put it on, but on plan above i would use it on the left where the lines look like they disappear into a building... :scratchchin: ... Then again, off to the right would give you a little more headshunt, but you could always shift the plan to the left and have a collapsible fiddle yard/extension there...;)

    Cheers, Gary.

Same comment as post #11, it depends on what shunting you want to do and how many wagon you want to run around, 1,2 ,3 ?

I f you don't want to run around anything, then Gary's Inglenook would probably fit the bill.

...The beauty of forums ... thanks all ... I've now jiggered and juggled and jangled and come up with a final plan taking ideas that evolved through your good selves ... and I think it works ... Ive eliminated the need for an indicating gizmo as well as having it go under anywhere ... and included a shunter spur for my steeple cab or diesel or J72 or ... now looking into a drop down whatsit ... mmm ... I like that idea and by using a cheap chalkboard as a base and a couple of hinges ... it would have to go on the left as theres already a backscene on the right ...[IMG]

Yep its definitely a plan Paul and I could make a sliding casette to go on it without interrupting the main build

At least you have the base board built, mine is still in pre-kit stage i.e. 3 sheets of 6x2 12mm ply :avatar:

Ref the fiddle yard cassette thingy bobby i'm now thinking how to adapt this shelf I made for my old controller... it bolts to the baseboard and lines up using engineers brass dowels .. if I cut that bit ... and hammer that other bit ... and glue the top bit I'm sure I can come up with a short 3 track sliding traverser whatsit ... or I could just milk the goat ... down some tinto ... and sleep it off ...

I have now decided that the buildings are a brewery ... the lower left track will be to deliver malted barley/hops/yeast to the brew house. Overhead pipes will then take the brew across to the pump/maintainance house then again through overhead pipes to the barreling/loading/unloading dock (furthermost righthand track). The nearmost righthand track is storage for loaded wagons prior to going down the mainline. The further most lefthand track is for wagon repair and storage of empty wagons awaing loading. The centre lefthand track is to the mainline ... if that makes sense ... Wagons will be a mixture of Airfix kits (vans) re-wheeled Triang/hornby grain wagons with tarpaulins and various rtr 5/7 plank wagons. The name of the brewery will be Goatherd beers and stouts ... the buildings will be kit bashed Lcut covered in Scalescenes paper. I hope to have catenary around the brewery but thats not vital ... the upper level is just a branchline to a small terminus station. .. now all I' ve got to do is build it ...

First part of the build almost there (upper level) using cheap chalk boards just the track surface to insert before laying track down on both levels to give me an idea of the size and shape of the buildings ...

In contrast to yesterdays weather its now cold windy and wet and forecast to be like this for 4 days ... but not to panic we've got 1 stale loaf and 4 bottles of tinto in ... Anyway the workshop is now our front room (this'll cost me). But at least the hard surface for the upper level should be in today (must remember to drill holes for droppers and point control)[size=
