    Hi Sol,

it'll just be a cobalt as usual. Do you see any problem. I will make sure sufficient room is given between the turnout and the platform edge for any potential overhang.

    cheers

Wusses the lot of you :avatar:, now pass me the hankies, thermal vest, cold flu tablets just in case.

And get out into that shed, I know multitasking is impossible for us males of a certain age, but feeling sorry for yourself and working on your model railway doesn't count :avatar:

Not me ...... made the shed ..... eventually and got started.

started with roughly laying out the track ......

and a slightly better shot from a higher perspective ......

    ......

then started to construct part of the backscene board which will house a low relief warehouse type building.

I wanted a box section as there will be electrics etc housed in there for lighting etc. Next step is the back scene board for the end of the layout.

and a bit board to give an impression of where I am going with it.

The end backboard will be of the same construction. In fact I am off to B & Q for a sheet of 3mm ply to allow me to complete it and start marking out track and building positions.

    I'll be back.

    cheers

Ooh that looks exciting Toto, its always nice to see a layout coming together when the track is positioned... have you got a diamond crossover to fit into the scene or are you making one up from a kit?

ha ha ....... you crack me up ....... :avatar: ..... make one from a kit ..... ahhhhhhh that was funny. Ahem ...... no .... I have a Peco double slip to install. Well ...... Paul has a double slip that I'm installing ..... just not sure he knows it yet. :avatar:

Anyway ... I went back to B & Q in order to get some ply to finish off the back scene area's.

and here we go ...... framing started and one layer of ply fixed .....

second layer of ply fixed and now in place on the end.

The attention now turns to finishing of the rear back board ......

    and there we have it.

and one more. The back scene board to the end of the layout will have openings etc cut into it. both ply sheets can be unscrewed and then refixed when the various apertures have been cut in. Same with the back.
The side one will have pipe bridges and the likes cut into it to keep enough of the space filled to hide the route through to the traverser. I'll have to get the double slip soon as it will determine how the exact finished positions of the various tracks end up aligning with the building etc. I'll plug away meanwhile. Maybe bung some paint down onto the baseboards.

    cheers for now

There is time yet ...... feeling confident though. It'll be next weekend before I get the double slip ..... :( and I'll be at York .....:D ..... every cloud and all that. Maybe my goods shed will have arrived by then. Its one of the few things that does not rely on the double slip to start fitting. All the track lines require it to enable me to get the final position on the carriage works etc. Things will soon start flying though.

    cheers

How does that work Toto? Do you roll it by hand on the Das?
You will have to do a "how to".

    Cheer's, Pete.

    Hi Pete,

I'm assuming that's how it will work. Just roll it out trying to maintain an even pressure as you go. I plan to use it for cobbles around the goods shed are and between the tracks in front of the shed. I'll do a how to ........ seems easy enough. I think the painting will be an air brushing affair all over then achieve the mortar course by using a wash brushed or allowed to run through the maze of joints. summit like that.

    cheers

We'l, his nibs dropped of the double slip today on route to pick me up for the York show. ( he got a ticking off for not having his chauffe ...... showf .......... drivers hat on ). Anyway, that is the vital piece of the jigsaw which will allow the loose laying of the track to go down and allow pin pointing of the tracks exiting the baseboard. It gives me mg building positions.

So, Sunday is looking good for progressing Luib Bridge. There will be a great mix of things going on there. Such a mix of materials from Townstreet platforms and signal shed, Timber tracks goods shed and low relief buildings to evergreen polystyrene sheets for the wagon works. I'm hoping to use clay for the track infill where needed and for the concrete areas in front of the various building areas.

Hopefully I'll get one of them right. :avatar:

    Update s on Sunday.

    Cheers

Back from York tonight and thinking about tomorrow's visit to the shed. It will be double slip and track time. The track laying will give me my building coordinates that I need . I should be able to work out where the openings in the short scenic board will go. That'll be the one that leads from the main baseboard onto the traverse. I seen a great example of that in York today but never took a photo.

No matter, the idea is firmly in my head just waiting to be transferrd onto plywood. I'll post up a couple of photo's tomorrow and the scene will become a bit clearer.

    Cheers

Have you considered printing the track plan out and gluing to the baseboard ?? Certainly makes things a lot easier to position buildings, allow clearances around buildings/platforms, clearances for locomotive/rolling stock lengths in sidings etc, etc.

With the cobbles stamp, just remember that air dry clay has a tendency to crack when drying. I would imagine at the depth you need to fill in from base board to (almost) rail height, you will require a lot of clay. Another option is to fill in the areas with plaster and when dry, scribe in the cobbles. I would assume that this method will be a lot quicker than using the stamp. ;)
Now, one more question.., when are you cutting holes in the side of the base board frame for the fork lift...??

    Cheers, Gary.

I'd have thought that at this time of year in Scotland there'd be more chance of the DAS clay freezing than dry cracking Gary! Don't forget, we're not in the Southern hemisphere over here.:avatar::avatar:

I'm on to it Gary ..... honest, I never forgot ..... much.

And here is the start of todays progress.

Paul dropped off the essential ingredient yesterday .... and I got set to work ....

doing a bit of this ..........

and a bit of that ..........

and a bit of the other .......

then after marking up a few track positions .......

    a hole appeared .........

    and another ......

and another ........ yikes ..... big wood beetles over here. :avatar:

and a bit of playing around with platform edges etc ......

a quick glimpse at the dummy wagon TT as given to me yesterday by Jakesdad  cheers.

So next job is too start measuring the footprint of the wagon works shed onto the shorter of the two back scene boards and start looking at doing the same for the warehouse footprint along the rear back board. I'll be looking at tidying up the platform edges ( Townstreet ) and building a card or foamboard platform. There is a recess on the back edge of the platform flag stones for the platform surface to drop into so I'll see what works out better in terms of thickness .... the daler board or the foam board. that is what will determine what I use.

I also need to finely file the platform joints to make the seam minimal and think about gluing them together and getting started with the paint finish. Its a stone finish rather than a brick finish. So ..... I've made a start and I'm looking to try and make steady progress from here on in.

    more later.

    cheers

I've been back in the shed briefly and with the assistance of David, taken the two baseboards apart. this will let me set to work on baseboard number one from both the rear and the front to get a start on the structures. Now I can start to get some of the building measurement a bit more finely tuned. I'll be cracking on tomorrow evening after doggie walking duty is over. Until then ...... cheers
