The planked version looks interesting as well, if you haven't done so, download the instructions, they are full of photo's and look straight forward - you're gonna love the chassis :giggle:

Yes, they could be worth a go.

Have you built any of your wagons Kimbo ? If so, how did you find them to go together ?

I fairly certain that M&M were selling on ebay as "One for the Wagon", I bought their BR brake van but never finished it because it soon became clear the veranda vestibule door ends and duckets were far short of what they should be, the etches are good and go together well but as I say are only somewhat representational. You need to tread carefully when putting the W irons on as you only get one shot if soldering... you also need to drill out for axle bearings. Factor in wheels and sprung buffers and these can become expensive items of rolling stock. For £36 you can get a better complete kit of a vent van from Slaters... fill it with lead and it rolls just the same, or speak to Laurie at MM1 as he has just reintroduced a nice range of BR vent vans... in fact I think you can get all versions even if you do have to get wheels as an extra.

I have built their 4 shoe pipe wagon. The brass parts and upperworks were great but the brake gear didn't come anywhere near to fitting so I ended up scratch building it. I haven't built anything else because most of their range is BR so doesn't fit with my modelling interests.

The first photo shows the difference in length of what was supplied v's what was needed. It's one of the reasons why I never displos of scrap etch....

It came out alright in the end and I subsequently sold it on far too cheaply but such is life sometimes.

I do have build pictures if they are of interest?

They do an 8 shoe version of the Pipe which always appealed to me, it's just the inaccuracies in parts of the brake van which put me off. I'd be very interested to see pictures of this build please Rob.

And the M & M vans arrived today and with them ......... a bit of a surprise .......

comes in a very neat plastic cassette type box.

    with destructions .......

nicely protected etched sheet parts ......

and there they are. A little tarnished but I've seen worse ....... much worse.

and the white metal accessories. Two of these plywood vans came as ordered.

pretty impressed with the overall kit and the way its been packed and despatched.

    cheers for now..

The nice plastic cassette cases are good to keep all your transfer and lining sheets in afterwards. Toto I'll get those vans made up this weekend and start a weathering thread showing my own technique as asked, hopefully this will support and add to all the other great weathering posts currently happening.

    Great stuff good Sir.

I'll be starting my builds on my first vacant weekend after Elgin. Going to get my butt organised and in gear.

I have a variable temperature soldering iron that I am going to get set up specifically for the white metal parts then get a production line going with two or three wagons at a time. Once I have a batch of say three, I'll get the primer on the go and take it from there.

I'll start looking out all the easier kits first. :avatar:

    Cheers

Sounds good Toto and good luck with Elgin Show mate, just make sure when you TACK solder the van bodies together you have 90 degree angles and once you're happy then you can seam solder using 145 degree stuff. I'll also add in the Southern BY van to the thread as the Stock Green paint arrived today.
