Toto has been spending too much time up North - its rubbing off on him, Ian better watch his goat, Toto's eyesight isn't what it used to be Lovely model Chris, with or without long grass Paul
It's alright Paul Toto hates my goat he almost said so himself when he banned it from the competition .... although I think the very nice Mr Biffen likes it. Oops sorry Chris the fence looks great! Ian
leadie69 wrote: Ok Ian. Mmmmm! Right O your in charge of that, I'll get the ticket book and make up a official looking badge in photo shop, Your side arm will be a Smith and Hammer quick draw that's the sawn off version ie just long enough to get the fingers, short enough so you miss the trains.
ianvolvo46 wrote: Ian I think I have a goat over on my dads layout may have to fetch him home But will have to put a lead on him and attach him to a fence post He's not as wooly as your goat. As a kid I caught 2 goats that would roam the property's around my parents place and eat anything that was on offer they ended up being good pets I Had them for well over 10years
A Bridge View Block for the sector plate end of Moonan Flats. Today I made a start on the view block for the entry tracks to Moonan Flats as the scenic area of the layout only represents the end of the yard something was required to break the view and make it seam that the rest of the world is on the other side. Being a country branch a stone arch bridge as I'd the norm on this type of layout wasn't suitable a timber bridge was more of the style that my have been found in the local area. The bridge being timber would be styled off NSWGR bridge practice and it is only a part relief of the bridge would be modelled. The basic parts come together glued and clamped The bridge bents under the deck I drew up a plan as can be seen under the structure, for the bents so thay would be the same. Sorry forgot to take photo of that bit. Sat in position to make sure it fits. The deck is Balsa wood the main timbers are Tasmainian oak The deck is scribed to represent the timbers. More to come hand rails and painting and weathering of the timbers.
Looking good Chris. Now where did you find that fine timber? Going to make a great scenic break. How will you finish it, wood stain and varnish? Kim
Kimbo wrote: Thanks Guys for the comments Kim. The Square darker timber is from Bunnings warehouse, listed as TasOak/sel, product code DAZR0606 in 1.2m lengths at various square sizes Then the smaller timber is balsa as is the deck a flat piece scribed the bolt holes drilled. Stained the deck with Mig timber ageing wash then dry brush with floquill LN Gray thinned and the rest of the timber was done in a similar way very thinned LN gray to stain the timber. Bolt details being added Deck aged wood stain Now the handrails to build I edited the post and put in some photos in had some issue up loading with photos going in sideways fixed now hopefully ??
Looks great Chris, another quality job. The staining looks terrific. Will you be adding the white guard rail/fence to the top ? Cheers, Gary. ps. Do I spot a little cheating going on here with the piers ?? Square posts....
Gary wrote: Thanks Gary re the hand rail yes it's gluing as I type will pre paint then attach to the bridge and paint the top bolster of the bridge with a white wash as well
Bridge Rail coming together Balsa and Grandt line bolts Rail mounting bolts installed, ready for pre painting White before fitting to the main bridge structure. Gary re the Square posts, I originally purchased several lengths of round dowl but I could not find a photos of a round post one like I was thinking of the ones I found where Square post covering double tracks so thought as I was covering 3 tracks would go for the square and found the Tas Oak at Bunnings so went with it got lots of round dowl now though for the next project Attached files
Very impressive. the staining does not half bring it alive. Looking forward to more kind sir. cheers toto
Thanks Ian and Toto it's getting there Slowly Now I was in Bunnings wasting time whilst waiting for Shelley to finish work today and costing up the materials for the competition plank. so for Kim the image below is the shelf tag for the wood used also comes in 2.4m lengths for the larger square profile Close to 10" and 1-1/2 foot square in 7mm scale from memory Attached files
Ok the bridge saftey rail pre painted and mounted in position and clamped. Saftey rail painted and fitted I used a TAMIYA flat Acrylic thinned with isopropyl alcohol and applied several Coates to keep the timber grain visible. The Barge rail also white washed with the thinned paint Back in position on the railway Railmotor No11 passes under. Whilst a old Holden utility passes over Weathering on the timbers and rusty nut and bolts Now to make the wings under the bridge sides.
Made up the Station name board today some styrene for the back board then cut some strips of Styrene for the frame edge mitrecut the corners at 45' and fixed to the back board next some old code 100 Peco FB rail as legs, painted the frame black, then printed name out and varnished and cut to size and affixed then mounted on the platform, now I'm thinking the rail posters should be white so will repaint tomorrow also thinking about a small garden under the sign. Also did some work on some rolling stock today and mounted a photographer on the bridge Progress at Moonan Flats Station name and details going on by CHRIS, on Flickr Then it was on to testing all the stock under the bridge only to find one loco just touched so a slightest adjustment to the bridge position and all is now ok. Overview of 1/2 the yard as 3820 arrives with a small train well over powered is this train Lastly what the fireman sees from the footplate.when arriving at Moonan Flats Just a couple more items ticked off the to-do list. just 99 more to do it seems
