G`day Reidy, That`s coming along nicely mate... You may have to go along some of that rail though where the sand has crept up above the sleeper chairs......it can affect electrical pick up by lifting a wheel at that point...........how do I know this????????........anyway it will scrape off with a pin or a small screwdriver.....no problem. The sand should easily colour up with your choice of paints........it`s going to look really good.....I can feel it in my bones..... http://www.clickGormo
Thanks Gormo 👍 Forgot to mention I added some burnt umber acrylic to the generic Sculptomold.
Hi Reidy, when I did Lord Street Depot, I used my cement weathering powders added to the sand to change the colour from a very light grey to dark grey / black. 1 teaspoon of the powder added to a large tupper- ware container was all that was needed. Kim
I finally had a chance to try out my airbrush. Burnt umber acrylic thinned with windex. Looks suitably earthy. I've laid out a test bit of track to work out the ballasting issue. Glue is drying and I'll get back to you guys when it's dry and hit it with the air brush.
So this looks pretty darn good. The formula is Rustoleum flat brown spray paint for the base colour, dry brushed acrylics for breaking up the uniformity, sand sand and more sand, scenic glue, airbrushed burnt umber and then good ol pastels in various colours. The next problem is the track is laid and spray paint and styrene get on really well 🤦‍♂️ I'll have to seal the foam with scenic glue and then hit it with the spray paint me thinks.
The sand for ballast is very effective for 4mm scale, I will try it on my 7mm layout in the works yard where the track isn't infilled (if I ever get my shed sorted and can set it up ). Pete.
And in situ. Notice the overspray from the basecoat that has created a nice cliff effect? I might save that for later.
Hello again Got the acrylics out this evening. My art teacher was right, I don't think I've got the gift. Looks more Picasso than Van Gogh 😂 Also, 95% finished sealing off the foam with my sculptamold mix. Need to sort out the noisy ballast tomorrow. I'm also in two minds about the amount of space I've given my self for the fiddle yard. I could extend the timber mill siding in front to another industry Reidy
I found these video tutorials excellent for painting back scenes : http://www.platform1mrc.com/view_topic.php?id=1678&forum_id=14 I used this particular method on Jay Dubyew Nth Yard. Cheers, Gary.

Gary, that would have to be one the most useful tutorials I've come across so far. Thanks for sharing! Reidy
That went well! Thanks, Gary. Still go to sort the blue out and work out whether or not to airbrush or brush some cloud in. Reidy
Heya mods! Can one of you dashing gentleman please change the title of this thread to 'Tumut' please? Gundagai is dead and buried, for now. Reidy
Reidy your a man of many Talents liking the Back scene very Artistic. I've tried it a few times but I painted better with my finger in preschool than what I can do now
