Remember, you built the tender first, so I'm sure the loco will have benefited from your improving skills, looking forward for this crossing my bench, or maybe more importantly if crossing your paint bench, as you say maybe the subject of a visit.

Been to the shed and retrieved the old girl from the elements .....

showing a bit worse for wear having been abandoned for a year or so.

I wipe away the tears ........

So ......... a bit to do there I think.

    Now the body .........

    and again .........

and the final depressing image for now.

So ..... you can see the job in hand. I think the prder should be ,

clean up the chassis and get a running chassis.
finish off the brake gear and sand boxes and other castings which attach directly to the chassis
another clean and back on with the wheels for another check.
Off with the wheels and motor etc
    prime the chassis.

onto the completion of the body.

    thats my thoughts

    Body and Chassis

Give them a clean with the ultrasonic cleaner, then Barkeepers friend (make a paste from the powdered version) workit in - use a tooth brush, leave for a few mins then wash off. Clean again in the ultrasonic bath ( I use a 5min wash each time). Repeat as required.

    Wheels
Loosen off with an ultrasonic clean. Then turn the fibre wheel and dremel on them. Once good ultrasonic clean again then a wipe with WD40, and get them upto me for blueing.

    Axles
Clean up as per wheels, then mount in your drill press and polish up using wet n dry (wetted with WD40) my final grade is P2000.
Then follow the hot dipping process used for the Tender axles - heat the axle until turns blue - drop into a container with oil (I used normal vegtable oil - see a fully vegan friendly process). You may need to repeat for the other end - I wasn't too keen on having the blow torch flame wafting around my hand holding the pliers - I know I'm just a wimp.

I'll pass on the message to your tender that you're pulling the finger out :avatar:

Body cleaned using bar keepers freind and a polish down with the dremmel.

    and ....

will still attack with ultrasonic cleaner once I have progressed the build. It will only get mucked up again.

two sets of wheels and axles out but one set of axle nuts not moving. I think my allen key is a bit worst for wear.

The wheels will need cleaned as will the axles. barkeepers freind, dremmel with buffing disc then ultra sonic. Just as soon as I get the third axle off.

    cheers
