Lead flashing works well if you can get it, but p&p can be an issue.
Ebay has Lead ingots 1.8Kg for approx £8, you will need to cut them to size. Of course you could drill them and use the swarf.

Another useful source of ballast for wagon is the copper shrapnel that we no longer use much but gather seemingly from nowhere. A few 2 pence coins add up to quite a bit of weight.

The only thing to remember when using lead is don't glue it in with PVA in an enclosed space. You are fine sticking it under wagon underframes with PVA as the fumes can escape.

When I gave up scuba diving I sold off everything except my weight belt which was full of lead shot (I had repaired it several times so the belt itself despite being a shot belt was worthless 2nd hand). I emptied it and use it for where I can't get lead sheet in.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. My C2's are 05mm long so easy maths 105g needed. I bought a small bag of lead shot years ago but never used it. So shot and dilute PVA for those two little beggars.

I use flashing. p&P isn’t a problem. I got mine from a builder who had a bit left over from a job.

you can get small led type balls used for fishing weights quite cheap which can be stuck in with PVA glue.
