Thanks Chris & Kimbo. Strange thing happens when a train departs under the bridge, it doesn't appear in the background...?? You could say it's the Tardis of model railways...! Cheers, Gary.
Nice bit of work there Gary, That looks really good.......much better than the plain blue I must say.!! http://www.clickGormo
Hi Gary, nice backscene. very believable. Is thatthe leaning tower of piza in the backgoround really is great. i think the way the track on the backscene lines up with the layout looks the part. A natural continuation of the layout. well done ..... cheers toto
Thanks Gormo & Toto. When I first eyed this iamge with the track coming forward I knew I could use it. Just call it luck that it was curving in the right direction ! Cheers, Gary.
Finally got around to fitting the sound decoder to my Bachmann 08 ! Fitted the decoder, programmed the loco to a number and tested it without the body on. The sounds are great ! Put the body on and it still works, even better !! Now, the shock... the little 08 doesn't like trundling through some of the small wyes and occasionally through the single slip. It simply stalls and drops the sound, sometimes triggering the NCE to stop working. I just don't know why ?? When I first wired the layout, I tested all the wiring via DC and used the same 08. The loco ran faultlessly. Now, before anyone mentions the frogs or dirty track/wheels, I can testify that this isn't the problem. I thought that perhaps the blade of the points were not engaging due to dust/dirt, so I wiped them down with isopropyl alcohol to remove any muck. Both my Class 22 and Class 25 run faultlessly all over the layout without any problems. The only piece of track the loco runs on is the very front line from the fiddle yard to the cement siding. I guess this is where this loco will be operating for the exhibition, until I find the fault... Cheers, Gary.
Gary if the system is shutting down and restarting as it goes through the points it is possibly a very tiny short with the wheels touching some part of the point same reason the decoder may reset and start again. On DC this will be an almost indecernable hick up that turns into a major issue with DCC. Try turning the lights off in the room and running the 08 through the offending points and look for a spark if it is just touching something then if it isn't a critical part of the point try painting on some paint/clear enamel or even a clear nail polish on the spot to insulate it. Good luck with the the fault finding PS the nail polish paint are super durable Shelley gave me a old one and I have used it several times. For similar issues.
Perhaps stay alive might have been a good idea as well. Some of the smaller loco's can sometimes lose contact with the track just enough to give that break in conduction. How many pick up points are there on the loco ? I have a 08 which runs like a pig as well. I'm sure it's sound fitted and I wish I never bothered with it as it is more off than on. The slightest dip in the track is all it needs for the pickups to lose contact. I hope you get it running sweet In time for the exhibition Gary.
Gary I must admit my Horby 08 with sound is a nightmare, whereas all my bogied locos and dmu's run faultlessly, adding a stay alive helps a little, as Chris says the shut down is a short - first priority. You may have to take the body off just incase its one of the wires to the decoder. Paul
I had one more loco to put a decoder in, but not a sound decoder. Anyone here tried to fit a decoder and speaker in a Hornby 0-4-0 Sentinel diesel shunter...?? I will post up a thread on fitting the decoder with ample pics, but for now, here is a couple of pics after the loco got all grubby... Oh, I added a driver as well and that's all he is good at, after all, I had to remove his legs from the knees down ! Another subject that was lacking on Industry Lane were the workers. Railways don't operate by themselves. So, out came the Dapol/Airfix figures, Humbrol paint, a small pin vice and some fine stiff wire... ^ Too much glare on these chaps. I think they need dulling down with a black wash... The chap on the right is the same as the chap in the pic below, but I carved the flags out and turned his head the other way. I reckon they have just come back to work after a 5 course meal... One pastie and four pints ! ^ The 'gate keeper' keeping the crossing safe armed with flags. ^ Typical railway workers, all talk, no work ! These blokes need a wash as well as they to are far too shiney. So much for matt paints ! Cheers, Gary.
G`day Gary, Those blokes look familiar............I think their relatives are digging up my main platform.???? Nice work on the paint jobs. Just for everybody else........Gary told me the other day that he had painted 10 model people in the one day.....the man is a machine........that quantity would do my head in and give me a headache. The pressures of exhibiting... http://www.clickGormo
What paints do everyone use to paint figures, I find using undiluted artists watercolours works for me. Ian vt
For paints I have been using the cheapo tubes of acrylics from Hobby craft / tesco / the range / dunelm etc etc. However I get better / easier results using Humbrol, Tamiya and Citadel (Gamesworkshop) acrylics and will use these paints on figures out in the open. The ones in the buildings I'll use the cheapo paints, and just add good paints as I need a colour. Gormo, I think I have the rest of the family here, but there in hiding trying to avoid deportaion to the colonies. Gary superb - as usual. Paul
Gary the little Sentinal looks the business great colouring. I have the little blue NCB one they are an amazing little performer. A dodgy vid of it pulling The "wind cutter" mineral wagons on the club layout it would pull more on the flat 35, but that is all it would pull up the helix my Hornby 28xx 2-8-0 won't pull that train up the helix. I wasn't driving BTW, since this I have set the decoder to a nice scale top speed that fixes all the speeders at the club when they use one of my loco's Vid link http://youtu.be/3soRojfjsHQ
gormo wrote: Nah, they're contractors. They get around a bit Did you manage to fix that 08 Gary, or did I miss it. Ed
Thanks guys. I think I'm ready for the exhibition, well nearly anyway...! Oh boy... Ian, your own layout gives me inspiration as you show high standards with your modelling, especially your scenery. As for paints, I like using Humbrol. I have only one pot of acrylic for repainting my O gauge Class 33, but I prefer matt enamels. Gormo, I thought you knew where those blokes took off to every now and then ! Paul, cheers mate. You know the colony is Australia ?? Ever wonder why the others ain't coming home, our weather is.., well, good most of the time ! Chris, great video. I may have to ask you a few questions during the weekend about the Powercab. Might save me doing some serious reading if I pick your brain ! Kimbo, a compliment from the master of O gauge modelling, cheers ! As for WA, the only reason I'd go over there is to see your LSD and Marty's Newcastle Emlyn. Ed, I have been looking for my wheel gauge to check the back to backs, but it has been running so much better with the layout testing lately. Just hope the uglies don't rear it's head over the weekend ! Cheers, Gary.
Gary have a great show, I'm sure you and Chris are going to wow the public.....watch out for that pilot Chappie Kim
