If you want to "cut" your brown ballast down a bit, take a lot of Monkey nut shells (peanut shells), then blitz them in the coffee grinder. Gives a light brown ballast, then mix with the medium brown ballast. Other nut shells can be used and give different colours / textures and sizes.

    G`day Folks,
    What a good idea ......maybe a little nutty!!....but good.
I collect local gravel from the streets and blend my own. It`s a little tedious grading it through sieves but the end result is good.......yet to be put on the track though. I will be using the usual old method of water and washing up liquid followed by diluted PVA via a dropper.
    Cheers

PS....just remembered......a friend of the family has made I guess what you`d call a plough, to fit on the front of one of his locos for ballasting. He lays the ballast down and then runs the loco forward over it to spread it out. I`ve never seen it in operation....I`ve only heard about it.....sounds interesting though.????

Loads go great ideas. I'll need to corner the monkey nut market. The plough sounds novel as well.

I sent away for a proses ballast spreader through Osbourne models but it never appeared. It was coming from the states although they had it as in stock.

I'll need a phone call there and a check on my pay pal account to see if payment was taken.

I'll come back on that one.

    Cheers

I'll need to keep an eye open for these bottles. Very handy. Had to take SWMBO out this afternoon but back now. Shed time for a few hours.

    Brrrrr:frosty:

    Cheers for now

    Good evening,

Just back in from the shed where I was finishing of a couple of sections of the rear embankment wall with brick paper, moving abutments and covering abutments with brick card.

here we are then. One of the abutments that needed moved back a few mm.

    and the other

The abutment now trimmed back, you can see the previous pencil mark where the abutment was.

    and the other,

Job done and brick card going on. No worries with the corners as there will be a strip of keystones going in to cover any rough edges.

And a shot from the other side. There will also be a concrete bearing slab running round at the correct height for the bridge to sit on.

A shot of the two bridges covered with the brick card.

    and again.

A bit of the rear of the embankment wall being finished off with brick paper. Brick piers will hide any joints.

    Another little patch.

Another shot showing the two remaining abutments to be covered in brick card.

    More of the covered abutments.

    And another

    and another,

And the last shot for the day.

    Well that's it for now.

It will be next weekend before any more physical work gets done on Highbridge as I will be off up North tomorrow again. So, for next week it will be finishing of the brick card on the two remaining abutments. Fitting Cobalt point motors and getting power to the track for the first powered test run.

All going well, the track wont give me any headaches and after testing etc, I'll be able to progress with the building of the embankment and building the brick piers to hide the wall joints.

There is also a small diesel staging to be built beside the shunters siding. This used to be a coal stage but since the transition from coal to diesel, its been adapted to suit.

Likewise, there is a small coal stage where the warehouse line separates from the two sidings. This survives to service the Jinty and the Pannier that will be awaiting redundancy.

Plenty to go. Looking forward to getting in to it again.

    cheers, hope you like.

That's it then, his mojo has gone south again :avatar:

Good progress there Toto, you'll need to take modelling stuff away with you to keep that mojo working.

    We'll see,

im on a bit of a roll now so things will continue.

Moving these abutments was a pain as they were all pinned together ( with the odd screw as well ) However, done now. the other two abutments dont require moving, just covering with card but that's for next weekend.

Looking forward to getting some power to the rails and shunt a wagon or two.

Another great variation of tasks to keep interesting.

    cheers

    Well,

Sitting in Inversneckie doing the count down until Friday. I'm hoping to have the Oomph on Friday ( after the drive down the road ) to hit the shed after tea. If nothing else, I can finish off these other two abutments and get the brick card out the way.

Hopefully that will put me in good stead for recommencing the electrics / Cobalts etc on Saturday morning. ....... That's the plan anyway.

    Cheers

Electrics ....... That reminds me, I'll need to rake through my fittings box as I have lights to fit to the underside of the bridge on the abutments. Mmmmmm

Another task. ...... :avatar: still, it's lighter work ......:avatar:
