The curve you are chasing for Paul is a quarter radius and can be gauged by measuring the distance from the top face of the smokebox former to the outer face of the boiler, the half etch smokebox wrap thickness should be visible from the back edge of the actual smokebox former as thelineof rvets denotes the coupling between the smokebox wrapperand the actual tube plate frame which forms the rear curve. Hope this helps.

    Cheers Paul

Trying just the 1/4 round profile

    upload_2020-6-28_16-5-31.png

Printing direct to the plate this time, I will find out in 25 min if I can get them off the build plate

    upload_2020-6-28_16-7-12.png

External radius 18.8, internal radius 18.0, bevel is a 1mm radius.

Of course Murphy's law will apply, as this boesn't have the boiler band built in all three printed without issue and all 3 came off the build plate. :whatever:

Not sure wether to solder on the boler band then apply the profile over the top, or to print the profile with a boiler band built in

You can always add the boiler band from tape - most of the pro painters use either tape or transfers for the boiler bands. These things were very thin in reality which doesn't really scale well.

Copper tape is good for where you need to solder pipework to the boiler band - I read somewhere that apparently you need to do this if you build a Britannia.

I bought some a few years back as use as a BUS for electrical pick up on Rosebuddy. It nice and thin. Dont know how easy it would be to cut thin and straight enough for this purpose but it wouldn't he impossible.

I assume that for normal boiler band use it would be great. But if you solder to it you would need to be in and out quickly to prevent the glue from softening and peeling off with the heat.

Very Rob. It does not need a huge iron as the copper is so thin and takes solder very quickly.

Cracking result Paul and I too worked on a radius of 1mm... i like the idea of incorporating the boiler band on the ring as well :tophat::thumbup:

Thanks guys, I may try and print it again in Green resin, as that tends to be a bit harder, on the other hand I may just sit in the window to cure for a couple of days then secure it with cyano (maybe after soldering in the middle boiler band).

sounds like a plan Dundee... or you could go with Blue resin which makes for less painting when you apply the double arrow on the tender.:avatar:

Glad you like it, but I'm not sure if my resin may be on it's way off, or may just be the size. Tomorrow, I think I will try green resin just to see the difference, and also restore the gap in the ring which will make fitting easier, especially if the ring is more brittle.
