Today I mostly worked on the last remaining fiddly soldering bits, lamp irons, footsteps, reversing lever, front frame overlays and the forward footplate, valve cover and a nice lost wax Laurie Griffin vacuum pipe, the tall chimney and tall steam dome is also now fixed in place. The can roof and smokebox door are next to be prepared but I won't fit the cab roof until I've cut the spectacle glazing which I'll fit after painting is complete.

The next installation will be to plumb the Wakefield lubricators and then fit them, then dress the loco with all other casting items and make up the backhead.

Now its really starting to look the part, 44352 will be a perfect compliment to the new diorama layout Leek Station which I have also started to draw up the building elevations... more in that though in a new thread once I've something to show.

It's been well worth doing as a kit. There are higher end market kits out there but when you see the end result, who would not be pleased with that. You'll soon be over the line.

It's a real pleasure to build Toto and yes I need to wrap this one up as the Brit starts very soon and I've also started measuring the plans and converting them into 7mm scale for the new diorama Leek Passenger station.

Which is pottery for "I've done nowt - but play" :avatar:

It's looking really good Paul, and although a bit behind the pair of you I'm still really enjoying the build, yes I've had issues, but they were my fault and not the kits, considering this is only my second O gauge brass loco kit, and possibly only my third ever brass loco kit I've attempted, and looking like the first I will have completed the experience I've had with this kit has given me the confidence to try others possibly even larger more complex kits.

Indeed Paul, we have all learnt something here with doing a joint kit... I'm certainly up for another joint build again at some point. We have each got a nice little loco and what will be really great is to bring them all together at an exhibition some time, I think both yourself and Toto have done a tremendous job of the builds and as a team of new on the scene kit builders i think we have all done brilliantly.

Agreed, at an exhibition they will look impressive, as it's normally RTR loco's that you see in multiples, not kit built ones.

Found out what that pipe on the side of the smoke box is - it's an Exhaust Stem Injector, found on both left and right hand drive versions, on the opposite side to the reversing lever.

Guess what my next 3D print is liable to be of :whatever:, the tender cab I will try and build from brass.

Nice find... so it wasn't a built in lavatory waste trap with a ceramic pan or a cast iron victorian lions paw bath fitted inside the smokebox... so what is Toto going to do with his now :avatar:

I think the tender cab in brass will go down well ok then so I'm lost spill the beans on your next 3D print off.

To be honest Toto i really haven't done a lot recently on the 4F, just a few spare hours this afternoon. I have been planning for the Leek station build otherwise I can see that falling behind too.

Yep, easy done ..... that's how the list of shelf queens grow. :avatar: so ....... deep breath and push on.

    Toto

PS with regards to the previous post, I'm now considering a billiards table on top of the tender with walkways around it. ..... beat that.:tophat:

Resurrecting this build thread as this is another loco which is nearly over the line, today I installed an extension pick up system on the tender using the middle and rear wheel sets, it was not suitable to install pick up wipers on the forward wheels because of bulkheads on the chassis. Instead this is where I shall place the two pin micro connectors, plenty of spare wire length and the earth sleeve just keeps the wires together .

Last week the tender went into paint receiving an etch primer then a satin black coat followed by a gloss varnish so that the Lion Rampant transfers could be applied. Looking at photos of 4F's it seems both small and large emblem transfers were used, I couldn't make out which size was used with 44352 so I opted for the larger emblem as the small one looked lost. Just have to apply the electrification flashes and seal the tender in a flat varnish before weathering which I won't do until the loco is ready.
