Just catching up with this and a few other threads as I've spent the last 8 weeks redecorating at home (8 rooms in 8 weeks, one more left to go, shhhhh, don't tell the "Paint Police"!!!). :giggle: For those not in the know, in the UK we were told going out to buy paint was not classed as an "Essential Journey". Fortunately, We bought ours just prior to 'Lockdown', wallpaper for 6 rooms came by mail order!
You made it clear over time that you were apprehensive about brass/white metal kit building Toto, but as I've said many times, you only build experience by having a go, the hardest part is taking the plunge and starting, once you get into it then confidence builds and the job just starts to flow, you're proof positive of that now, and you're finding it far less daunting, an "Esteemed Modeller" to quote Big Jim at the York show last year! Those 'more complicated' kits will seem much less or a challenge now as you progress, so more power to your elbow.

    Thanks Keith,

I keep qualifying myself as " not the finished article " like many of my started kits but I do notice a huge increase in my own skills / ability. I still make shocking mistakes usually caused by not thinking before I dive in to do a certain task. Hopefully they will happen less and less.

There are many individual challenges to kit building whether it's the type of soldering method you employ for a given task, ie sweating, resistance soldering, use of differing temperature soldering and loads more. These are all skills you have to master one at a time and know when to employ to it's best effect.

That is the journey I am going through right now and it all takes time and practice with a big dollop of confidence as well. I have started on that route and I'm well under way now.

I also now understand why folks have more than one project on the bench at any one time. Awaiting parts, a break from repetition and the likes. I can see mileage in jumping between builds but within limitation. I am currently trying to get one or two builds with the last items complete and over the line.

Then ...... the next learning curve ...... priming and painting ......never ends.

    Cheers

    Toto
