I'll second what Kimbo said. Great start Steve, looking forward to the next couple of stages. Cheers, Gary.
Well thanks for all of the encouragement. Gee, no pressure now is there. I'd better get it finished in time for the Christmas competition. That way I can cover it in icing sugar and enter.
Thanks Pete, I used a combination of my brand new Makita Jigsaw and my Makita Compund Mitre saw to cut the short straight sections at the base of each arch. I wasn't happy with the first attempt so I did a complete new section and scrapped the first piece.
I forgot to mention in my previous post that I finally got around to ordering some 3mm cork from Portugal Cork here in Sydney. They were very helpful and shipped it on the same day that I ordered it. This cork will enable me to cover the lower level completely so the running will be very quiet. It will also enable me to have the cork on the viaduct which will also help to keep the noise down.
A quick update of the viaduct build. I spen the afternoon constructing the formwork for the bridge. The outer side of the curve was easy as all the arches are evenly spaced. The inner part of the curve took a little longer and some work with a beautiful compass that I have had in possession for about 35 years. With this precision instrument I was able to mark the different radius curves nicely onto the ply before cutting them out with the jigsaw. The 3mm ply sheets were then nailed to the pine pieces that form the supports for each archway. Once this was completed it was onto the fun part. Coating the bridge with plaster. I had a bucket of premixed cornice cement which I chose to use for it's curing and adhesive properties, also I had to use it up as it expired in January and I don't have any renovation work planned for the house in the near future. So enough typing...... here is the evidence of work completed.
